Wing Solar
Engineered specifically to survive high-altitude UV profiles and remote off-grid environments across Lesotho.
Lesotho, affectionately known as the "Kingdom in the Sky," features a unique geographical profile. The country lies entirely above 1,400 meters in altitude, with peaks rising beyond 3,400 meters. This high-altitude topology means Lesotho receives exceptional levels of solar radiation—averaging between 5.5 and 6.0 kWh/m²/day. This places Lesotho among the most promising regions globally for solar energy generation.
However, the national energy grid suffers from severe structural challenges. Lesotho imports a significant portion of its daily electricity needs from South Africa (Eskom) and Mozambique. The ongoing load-shedding crisis in South Africa directly impacts Lesotho's economic activities, causing unexpected blackouts in Maseru, Mafeteng, and Leribe. Furthermore, over 50% of the rural population residing in mountainous terrains lacks access to the centralized electricity grid, making decentralized solar microgrids and hybrid PV storage solutions the only viable approach for country-wide electrification.
Deploying solar modules at high altitudes presents specific engineering demands. Under the thin mountain atmosphere, solar panels are exposed to elevated ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels and intense diurnal temperature swings. Traditional P-type PERC panels suffer from faster Light-Induced Degradation (LID) and thermal stress in these conditions. Our N-type TOPCon module series, featuring ultra-low temperature coefficients and optimized encapsulation materials, delivers the long-term reliability and yield performance required for Lesotho's mountain environments.

Providing customized power generation and storage infrastructure to drive economic growth.
Lesotho's textile export factories in Maseru and Maputsoe rely on continuous machinery operation. Power quality issues and grid shedding cause expensive production line stoppages. Our hybrid solar system designs integrate MW-scale PV configurations with industrial battery storage (BESS), offering seamless backup and shaving peak demand costs during high-tariff periods.
For mountainous regions like Thaba-Tseka and Mokhotlong, extension of the main utility grid is economically and geographically unfeasible. We design containerized modular solar microgrid solutions. Combining our high-capacity double-glass bifacial panels with integrated hybrid inverters and containerized battery enclosures, rural villages gain reliable, decentralized 24/7 clean power.
Mining operations at high elevations (e.g., Letšeng Diamond Mine) operate under harsh conditions. Fuel transportation for heavy diesel generators is expensive and logistically vulnerable. Our microgrid installations offset heavy diesel consumption, helping mines achieve their ESG goals and reducing operational risk under freezing winter climates.

Founded in 2005, Wing has maintained a consistent growth trajectory in renewable energy development. Today, we employ over 500 energy experts spanning operations in China and Europe. Wing Solar became a publicly traded corporation in 2023, showcasing financial health and capital stability to guarantee our 30-year performance warranties.
In 2023, Wing established its operational international headquarters in Vienna, Austria. This headquarters supports our distribution network spanning over 90 regions globally. Our global supply chain structure ensures prompt shipping logistics, customs compliance assistance, and direct technical support for installations across Africa, including the SADC region and Lesotho.
Deploying solar technologies in Lesotho requires compliance with local energy policies, utility safety protocols, and cross-border logistics rules. Wing ensures that all solar components and packaged hybrid systems strictly adhere to SADC standardizations and the requirements of the Lesotho Electricity Regulatory Authority (LERA).
Grid Interconnection Standards: Our on-grid and hybrid systems conform to the grid-code requirements of the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC), ensuring safe synchronisation, voltage fluctuation control, and islanding protection.
Cross-Border Logistics: We manage customs clearance processes via the Maseru Bridge or Maputsoe border posts, ensuring all duty documentations and South African transit requirements (SADC Certificate of Origin) are satisfied without delay.
Technical Training & Local Partnerships: Wing collaborates with local engineering firms and solar installers in Maseru, providing them with technical documentation, software configurations, and commissioning support to ensure local project integration.
A complete selection of hybrid, off-grid, and high-capacity industrial systems tailored for regional requirements.
As global solar technology transitions from P-type structures to advanced N-type passivated contact technologies, Wing remains at the forefront of this evolution. Our technical roadmap focuses on three main developments:
We are currently scaling manufacturing of Heterojunction (HJT) cells. HJT promises module efficiency over 23.5% and a temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C, enhancing power generation under high-UV conditions.
Integrating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with cloud-connected Energy Management Systems (EMS). This allows virtual power plant (VPP) configurations to help stabilize grids during regional outages.
Targeting a fully circular manufacturing process. Wing aims to reduce carbon emissions of its wafer, cell, and frame manufacturing to meet stringent European and global ESG requirements.
By investing in local distribution hubs and engineering partnerships within the SADC territory, Wing aims to help lower the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) across Southern Africa. Our commitment is to ensure that commercial operations and private residences in Lesotho have access to reliable, long-lasting energy independence.
Providing clear, technical answers to common queries regarding design, regulatory approval, and performance.
Lesotho is characterized by high altitudes, which experience elevated UV indexes and considerable temperature shifts. N-type TOPCon modules have a lower degradation rate (LID is near zero) and a lower temperature coefficient (-0.29%/°C compared to P-Type's -0.35%/°C). This means N-type modules degrade less over time and generate more daily power in hot afternoon peak sun hours.
We arrange secure shipping through the Port of Durban. From there, products are transported via road freight to Lesotho border posts (Maseru Bridge, Ficksburg/Maputsoe). We compile all transit documentation, including the EUR.1 movement certificate or SADC trade agreements, ensuring low duties and smooth border clearance.
Yes, our hybrid inverters and complete power systems are equipped with anti-islanding protection and reactive power control. This complies with LERA and Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) grid regulations, allowing safe operation for both off-grid and grid-connected operations.
We recommend Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry for residential and C&I applications. LiFePO4 batteries offer a longer cycle life (exceeding 6,000 cycles at 80% Depth of Discharge) and handle sub-zero winter temperatures in the highlands better than traditional lead-acid alternatives.
All Wing solar modules are covered by our 30-year linear performance warranty. In the event of system issues, you can contact our technical support division. We collaborate with local engineers in Maseru to assist with troubleshooting, maintenance, and replacement logistics.
